Chez-Sucre-Chez is an intentionally poor translation of home-sweet-home into French. It's funny; it's supposed to be. Kimberly Scola, the artist behind Chez-Sucre-Chez, is inspired by the concept of a handmade life and the collective memory of a time when people were able to make or trade locally for the objects that decorated their homes and themselves. She prefers hand-made, lovingly crafted objects over those churned out in factories. The scope and medium of projects and products that Kimberly makes is continuously evolving as she learns new skills and follows new interests. For this reason, defining her business or product line is a little tricky, so Kimberly sums it up as "handcrafted miscellany for you and your home sweet home."
Kimberly spent her college years in Kutztown and then moved first to Boston and then to New York. After twelve years of big city living, Kimberly felt a desire to get back to the rolling country hills and fresh air of Kutztown, where she bought a house, set up her studio, and determined to make Chez-Sucre-Chez her full-time job. Since june of 2008, Kimberly has been working to do just that – little by little.
Chez-Sucre-Chez is now carried by a few shops across the U.S. and Canada and has been featured in the pages of Country Living and Readymade magazines and on several craft, design, and lifestyle blogs.
